Leena Räsänen

Leena is a micorobiology MMT specialized in plant growth enhancing soil bacteria. Examining the world through a microscope has given her a unique insight into the global picture. She has researched food hygiene and desertification processes in the developing world, as well as soil erosion and salinization. The underlying reasons and possible methods of reduction of forestry and climate change also form part of her professional research background.

Leena's experience also includes a long stretch as a researcher at the University of Helsinki (Helsingin Yliopisto). She has expansive knowledge of environmental bacteria, in both genetics and propogation; she is equally familiar with the world of horticulture.

She uses her understanding of micro- and molecular biological methodology in her plant and soil analysis work for the purposes of bioinformatics and statistical anaylsis. Project development and implementation, together with teaching and training form a natural part of her ongoing professional work.

Leena was responsible for the opening of a DNA research laboratory in Poland (2012-2013, Institute of Soil Science & Cultivation, Pulawy), and for the training of its scientific staff. The venture was launched in 2011, and brought with it new opportunities for commercial project partnerships in the field of environmental science. As a result, she is very familiar with the concepts of project management, sustainable development and commercial water and waste management.

Over the course of her career, she has come to realise that the world is a small place. It is her belief that, with the limited resources that we have at our disposal, we have to look after both one and other, and the world around us if we are to survive and prosper on this planet.
