Hanna Sinkko

Hanna is a microbiology / molecular biology MMT, whose work is mainly focused around multidisciplinary research into water-based science. As an example, she has worked extensively on researching microbial influence on eutrophication of the Baltic Sea. Hanna's particular specialization is big data analysis and data mining; in this capacity, she works as a consultant for various agencies and organisations. She is most in her element sat in front of a computer watching and interpreting vast streams of environmental data. In addition to her research work, she also lectures and leads laboratory workshops at the University of Helsinki (Helsingin Yliopisto.)

After completing her Master's in Food Science, she spent many years working on industrial microbiological projects, including research into the risk of bacteria-related food poisoning toxins migrating through paper food packaging. She has also worked on applied projects developing safer alternative biocides to combat bacteria on food processing surfaces.

Hanna is fascinated by the diverse nature of her work, and her interest has never faded. She is at her best when faced with the prospect of collating different data groups to understand naturally occurring phenomena. During the course of her career, she has worked on projects alongside experts from many different fields.
